How many times have you noticed that you look older in the photo and the mirror? And how many times has someone said you look younger? This is all because it is easy to trick the human brain.
Dermatologist, cosmetologist, and beauty product company founder Tiina Orasmae (Reporting from BrightSide) talks about a series of signs that people use to determine the age of other people both in photos and in real life. To my surprise, the appearance of the wrinkles had nothing to do with it.
1. Uneven skin color
Black spots or pigments are the uneven distribution of melanin in skin cells which makes some parts of the face appear darker than others. An even skin tone makes you look much younger.
2. Clear facial lines
Clear facial lines are associated with youth. This is all because of the elasticity of the skin changes with age. The younger we are, the tighter the skin elasticity. As we age, the skin becomes thinner and stretches. This is why when facial lines are uneven or unclear, people think that the person is older than them.
3. The size of the ears and nose
The smaller the ears and nose, the younger the face will be. The problem is, ears and nose are some of the few parts of the body that continue to grow throughout our lives. So we associate big noses and big ears with age even though we are not aware of it.
4. The speed of moving
Identical old people prefer slower and more careful movements. The faster a person moves, the younger we are. But there’s something else you should know: it’s not just about speed, it’s also about fluency. The more you move around, the younger you will look.
5. Posture
When entering a room, look at the ceiling, not the floor. These are simple rules that everyone must follow if they want to look like a youthful and energetic person. Hunched back with low shoulders looks old because the elderly do not have enough muscle strength to maintain correct posture.
